It's been about a month...
Substack has given me an opportunity to communicate more regularly with a wider audience.
When I started writing here on Substack earlier this month, I wasn’t quite sure what would come of it. Prior to my more-than-five-years at Libertarian, Inc. (a name I’ll use for my previous employer), I wrote heavily about Tennessee politics, state-level regulations, and government transparency and accountability.
During my time at Libertarian, Inc., my ability and bandwidth to express my views were curtailed — mostly by bandwidth. Additionally, my desire to write came in waves, which is not sufficient to develop an engaged readership.
When Substack came on the scene, I grabbed my handle and kept it as a placeholder. At the beginning of this year, I decided to do something with it.
Nineteen posts and nearly a month later, and I think I’m beginning to carve out a niche and develop my voice.
What kind of content can you find here?
Over the last month, I’ve written on a variety of issues and published a number of radio interviews. To date, content can be broken out into four topics:
Appeals to Arlington and Northern Virginia Republicans to become involved, like this piece about the January 2024 Arlington GOP meeting
Broader “How To” pieces like this one about what you should take into account if you’re thinking about running for office
On-the-ground or observational commentary about current events, political campaigns, and party politics like these posts about Nikki Haley’s non-existent path to the nomination, my endorsement of Morton Blackwell for RNC National Committeeman from Virginia, and what to expect at the upcoming RNC Winter Meeting in Las Vegas, and
Interviews with WWTN, WBAL, and other news and commentary outlets like this recent interview on SuperTalk 99.7 WWTN (Nashville) about the RNC resolution to support Donald Trump as the Republican Presidential nominee and about Joe Biden (and Washington’s) failure on immigration.
What comes next?
As I build up this audience (you) over the next few months, I will begin putting some content behind a paywall — the paid subscription function you see here:
But don’t fret — most of the content (like items 1, 2, and 4) will remain free to anyone. You won’t even have to subscribe as a free reader to access it. A cursory glance at January’s 19 posts, and I can tell you maybe 6 of them would go behind a paywall under my current plan.
I don’t plan to toggle the paid subscription service until March, and it’ll only cost $5/month or $40/year. Your readership and support will allow me to dedicate more time to in-depth commentary and analysis based on current events and my 15+ years of experience navigating the political, nonprofit, and grassroots processes.
As far as email updates (they can be toggled on/off per post from Substack), I will limit those to no more than once a week. You don’t need an email alert every time I publish something, but I encourage you to check back every few days to see if there’s anything new.
For regular readers to my Arlington GOP newsletters (read the latest here), which I have written for free since about 2016, you know this content is well-researched, well-reasoned, and time consuming to write. Your support will allow me to invest significant time and resources into building out a robust communications operation here.
Thank you in advance to those of you who have already subscribed. And thanks to those of you who are reading my content on a regular basis.
As always, you are encouraged to engage in the comments with questions, observations, and thoughtful critiques of my content.
